Scholarships

The New York Metropolitan Chapter has a distinguished record of awarding scholarships to qualified individuals for study in the United States and Finland in such fields as: science, medicine, business, music, art, history, education and Finnish heritage.

Scholarships for American students for studies and research in Finland or Finnish related subjects in USA, and for Finnish students and students with Finnish heritage studying in USA.

Scholarships will be granted for study or research at an accredited institution for the ensuing academic year. They will range from $500 to $5,000. To date, more than $350,000 in scholarships has been awarded from the following endownments:

Funds:

The John A. Philman and Annie E. Wikander Scholarship Fund

Provides financial assistance to American students who wish to study in Finland and Finnish students who wish to combine study in Finland and the United States.

The Tyyni Kalervo Scholarship Fund

Provides financial assistance primarily for students from Finland, wishing to pursue higher education in the United States

The Jean Sibelius Memorial Fund

Open to qualified applicants whose goals require the study of Finnish Arts.

The New York Metropolitan Chapter Scholarship Fund

Provides scholarships to persons preferably of Finnish heritage.

Completed applications with a proposed plan of study, transcripts and letters of recommendation must be received by February 15th.

All applicants will be notified of the Scholarship Committee's decision
by the end of May each year.
